GMA board appointments

The Victorian Government has appointed Ms Corrie Goodwin as Deputy Chairperson to the Game Management Authority and extended the appointments of Mr Chris Rose, Ms Maggy Samaan and Dr Sandra Brizga to 30 June 2025.

The Victorian Government has appointed Ms Corrie Goodwin as Deputy Chairperson to the Game Management Authority and extended the appointments of Mr Chris Rose, Ms Maggy Samaan and Dr Sandra Brizga to 30 June 2025.

Ms Goodwin joined the GMA Board in 2020, bringing more than 20 years of experience in land management and public administration from her extensive regulatory experience in the Australian Dairy Industry. Ms Goodwin will serve as the GMA’s new Deputy Chairperson from 1 July 2022 until 30 June 2023.

Mr Chris Rose will step down from the role of Deputy Chairperson and continue as a GMA Board Director for the next three years.

The Minister for Agriculture, Mary-Anne Thomas, thanked Mr Rose for his commitment and dedication to the GMA Board throughout his two years as Deputy Chairperson. GMA Chairperson, Brian Hine, thanked the Minister for the appointment of an outstanding group of capable and experienced directors. He also thanked Mr Rose for his highly valued contribution and support as deputy chairperson throughout a challenging period of regulatory reform. Mr Hine looks forward to continuing to work alongside Mr Rose as a Board Director where he will continue to chair the Board’s People and Culture committee.

Mr Hine also congratulated director Dr Bronwyn Orr on her recent appointment as President and Chair of the Australian Veterinary Association. Dr Orr will be stepping off the board as a result of her new position. Mr Hine thanked her sincerely for her outstanding contribution to animal welfare initiatives in game hunting in Victoria. Dr Orr’s vacancy on the board will be filled in due course.

Existing Board Directors, Ms Maggy Samaan and Dr Sandra Brizga, have also had their appointments to the GMA Board extended for the next three years.

Ms Samaan is a senior corporate lawyer with broad experience working in the public and not-for-profit sectors. Ms Samaan joined the GMA Board in 2017 and has provided quality advice in relation to governance polices and implementing risk management frameworks throughout her tenure. Ms Samaan will continue as Chairperson of the Audit and Risk Management Committee.

Dr Brizga is an independent consultant specialising in river, catchment, and coastal management with extensive experience on government boards and committees. Dr Brizga Joined the GMA Board in 2017 and has provided stewardship of the GMA’s new research program since that time. She will continue to Chair the Research Committee.

These extended appointments ensure the GMA Board’s diversity, with regional Victoria-based members, varied professional, industry and corporate governance experience and gender equality while ensuring consistency and stability of board direction into the future.

The GMA works with the community as an independent regulator overseeing game hunting in Victoria through education, research and enforcement to ensure game hunting is conducted in a responsible and sustainable way.

The GMA is continuing to adopt best practice approaches to regulating deer, duck and quail hunting; investing in research and new technologies to ensure evidence-based regulation.
