The Kerang State Game Reserve comes into being today recognising the area’s value for water bird habitat and hunting.

The Kerang State Game Reserve comes into being today recognising the area’s value for water bird habitat and hunting.

Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio said the reserve was approved by State Parliament in the Crown Land Legislation Amendment (Canadian Regional Park and Other Matters) Act 2015.

Kerang State Game Reserve includes Fosters Swamp and Crown land along Pyramid Creek east and north-east of Kerang and is Victoria’s 200th State Game Reserve.

The reserve will be managed by Parks Victoria. The decision to establish the reserve was made following the River Red Gum Forests Investigation conducted by the Victorian Environmental Assessment Council (VEAC) in 2008 .

Part of the Kerang State Game Reserve will continue to be operated as a sewerage reserve used by Lower Murray Water for the discharge of treated wastewater from the Kerang Wastewater Treatment Plant.
